Frequently Asked Questions

What should my child wear to class?

Shorts and t-shirts are fine. Girls can wear leotards, but they are not required. These can be purchased at our shop in the gym, or at places like Target, Meijer or Walmart. The kids go into the gym barefoot, so you don’t have to worry about special gym shoes. No belts or jewelry and kids with long hair should pull it back into a ponytail. Also, no street clothes such as jeans or jean shorts are permitted. Ninja students are required to purchase a Ninja headband.

How qualified are your instructors?

Our instructors have gymnastics backgrounds and have been through training at CGA. They are also safety certified and have CPR training.

How do the kids advance to the next level?

At each level, there are certain skills that have to be mastered before a child can advance to the next level. We have evaluation sheets that we hand out at the end of sessions I to IV. The instructor is the person who makes the decision to move a child to the next level. They will sign that form to show that the child is moving up. They may even approach a parent after class and let them know they recommend the child move up. If you ever have any questions, please approach the instructor after class or check with the front desk. They will be happy to speak with you.

What is an invite class?

An invite class is a class for more advanced students. Participation is by invitation and is extended only by instructors.

Is Columbus Gymnastics a competition gym?

YES. We added a competitive team to our full recreation program in 2011. In 2013-2014 (only our 2nd competitive season) we were proud to have 5 State All-Around Champions and 12 individual event State Champions. That number has increased since that time.

What if my child has to miss a class?

Each student has the opportunity to schedule (2) make-up classes within the session they are enrolled. These make-up classes must be scheduled in advance. To do that, simply call the office and request a makeup. Your child will be assigned a class time different from their normal time, but at the same level.
